How were those videos?
We’ll upload more videos so please don’t forget to subscribe to our youtube channel.
Lastly, we have a good news today. Some of the students in the video will join the summer school 2017 as the intern (voluntarily). This wonderful movement is just happening from our former students to the new students.
Hello, it’s Yumeno, an intern from ISSJ.
I’ll introduce you all about the venue that we are going to use in the last half of ISSJ Summer School this year; Tokyo University of Science Seminar House.
This facility is for further improvement both on studies and humanity by study, rest, and stay together.
People use this for orientations, graduation thesis, conference presentations, workshops, lectures, etc.
In addition, it is usually only for the people relevant to Tokyo University of Science, so it will be a valuable experience for participants to stay 5days here.
Here is the link to its website but only in Japanese.
Thank you for reading our blog as always, and the next topic is “Introduction of Our Teachers vol.2”.
Hi, It’s Ayako.
This article is about ISSJ’s Features vol.2 on our active learning.
ISSJ’s active learning foundation is based on the three main points below.
ISSJ thinks communication to express ideas to others is one of the important skills as we believe it is a key to promote and develop their research by involving with others around them. Therefore, ISSJ Summer School program offers opportunities for students to make presentations in front of others.
2. Set hypothesis and examine
ISSJ does not simply offer the lectures. During our programs, students will practice to set the hypothesis and modify it by the knowledge acquired by the lectures then they will make the presentation to output their result.
3. Group works
ISSJ aims to develop student’s ability and attitude to accept the diversity and difference among others by experiencing life together, discussing topics deeply. In ISSJ Summer School program, we will provide the environment where students work as the group. They might experience difficulties but we do hope they will have creative ideas and results never reached by working alone. Also, they will reflect and understand themselves more than before. We do hope there will be a chemistry among others throughout their group works.
Why don’t you have those unique and spontaneous learning experiences mentioned above at ISSJ summer school together?
Today, I have an announcement of the extension lecture titled “Model Rocket Workshop” by Tokyo University of Science (TUS) and ISSJ.
This lecture is given on 6th August at TUS Noda campus as an extension lecture for public but also as one of our summer school programs.
It is opened to all of those who are from 6 to 18 year-old residents in Japan.(+ ISSJ summer school participants)
What you will do in this class is not just following the instructionsbut consider aerodynamics, acceleration, gravity, etc. by yourself, construct the model rocket, and launch it as far as you can: This is a very active class.
This is the perfect opportunity for those who cannot apply to ISSJ Summer School this year because of date/ages or who want to learn with international students in Tokyo.
During this summer school, we will use two venues. The first half is in Shiga and the other in the second half is in Tokyo.
In Shiga, our program is going to be held at the Ritsumeikan University and the accommodation is at the Epoch 21, which is located on the same campus.
In Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science is our program venue and the accommodation is at the seminar house which is a dorm of the university.
The theme of this summer school is “Where Do We Come From, Where Are We Now, and Where Are We Heading.” Based on this theme, prominent researchers and professors are going to provide the active and unique lectures. There will be two lectures in the morning and afternoon sessions every day.
In our program, every day is full of excitement with lectures, field works, and workshops. Although you will have the busy schedule, yet we could provide you more than you expected in this summer school. We will post further information on our programs, and we hope you’ll be looking forward to those.
4. Criteria For Selection
Our program is given in English. We don’t require certain qualifications in English scores such as by TOEFL/TOEIC but all of the participants need to be able to understand and express their opinions in English. We are happy to welcome students who with the proactive attitude, strong motivation towards science, clear self-image for their futures.
