ISSJ 2018 Spring Program

ISSJ provides a week-long spring program which corresponds with the curriculum of our full-time international science high school to be launched in 2020. This spring program will help to create a foundation for students to shape the future by identifying their own science research theme and learning how to make progress with scientific approaches and effective presentation skills to deliver their results on a global level.

Features of ISSJ 2018 Spring Program

- Research Project

During the 1st and 2nd day of the program, students will visit various laboratories and attend lectures and workshops which provide the latest scientific approaches and researches with a vision towards the future. Students will be divided into groups and work on their research project taking into consideration social issues and future prospect. Throughout the research, mentors from ISSJ and respective researchers from the universities will support the students make effective research and experiments.  On the last day of the program, the groups will present the outcome on their project to an audience of parents, ISSJ supporters, and other special guests from the community.

- Workshops

Students will attend workshops along with their research project in mind.  They will learn key elements which will help them to succeed as innovative scientists in the future. The workshop topics include “Experiment in Science,” “Science and Ethics,” and “Science and Art.”

-  Student life in dormitory

In the course of the program, students will stay in a university dormitory. This will allow students to make memorable experience for students to build friendships with participants from around the world as they spend time together and learn from one another. This also gives them an opportunity to immerse themselves in the college environment which will be beneficial for their future academic life.

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is an interdisciplinary graduate school offering a 5-year PhD program in Science. Over half of the faculty and students are recruited from outside Japan, and all education and research is conducted entirely in English.

Requirements-Currently to be 9th-11th grade and of the age 15 - 17 as of  April 1st, 2018.
-Proficiency in English to understand lectures, workshops and to discuss among other students
-Arrive at the venue by themselves at their own expense
-In good physical and mental condition
-Selected by a screening process
-Enthusiastic, takes initiative and to be able to work both independently and cordially with other students
CertificationISSJ will issue a certification to prove the completion of students participating in the 2018 Spring Program

( Tuition / Meals / Accommodations / Insurance and local transportation during the program except the free day(day5) )
Scholarshipwill cover the participation fee (worth 200,000 JPY), excluding travel costs such as air ticket and other transportation to/from the venue. An additional online interview will be required

How to apply / Application Procedures

ISSJ 2018 Spring Program take selection process as below.


Step 1 submit application with your essay

Please apply from the form ( https://goo.gl/nNQi1a )
If you apply with scholarship, fill out the checkbox in the form

Application deadline is 10th January 2018
Early application is highly recommended


Step 2 ONLINE INTERVIEW

Online interview will be conducted only for applicants passed the screening on their essays
Online interview will be conducted by Zoom (Details will be informed to the candidates)


Step 3 Scholarship Interview

The applicants who marks excellent result in the online interview on step 2 and
who apply with scholarship will continue to take an additional online interview by Zoom.


Step 4 Notification Result

ISSJ will inform all the applicants the result of selection by 20th January 2018.

  • accepted with scholarship
  • accepted without scholarship
  • will be accepted with conditions (waiting list)
  • see you next program

We will inform the final result for the applicants will be accepted with conditions by 31st January 2018.


Step 5 SUBMIT A LETTER OF CONSENT

Upon submission of the consent letter and completion on payment for non-scholarship applicants, we will officially confirm the participation in 2018 Spring Program.
